Our record gives 999 as the year of construction. The sources, however, say the Ilkhanid-era parts of the complex were first built under the Mongol ruler Öljaitü, with work continuing under his son Abu Said Bahadur Khan. The remaining buildings were added at various times, though only a short interval separates them. The complex was placed on the Iran National Heritage List on 9 July 1932.
