Tranquerah Mosque, known in Malay as Masjid Tengkera, stands on Tranquerah Road in Malacca City, close to Bandar Hilir. It is described as the oldest mosque in the state of Malacca and lies beside the tomb of Sultan Hussein Shah of Johor. Its design draws on Javanese traditions: a square base carries a three-tiered pyramidal roof, and a pagoda takes the place of a minaret, which makes it one of the few mosques in Malaysia with this feature. The interior blends Malay, Chinese and Indonesian elements.
