The Abu Darweesh Mosque stands on a prominent rise of Jabal al-Ashrafiyeh in Amman, Jordan, in the part of the city belonging to eastern Amman. Its position makes it visible from many parts of the capital. The exterior and decoration follow an older Damascene style, and the building is constructed with two colours of stone, white and black. It is counted among the best-known mosques of Jordan and houses a madrasa with a study library. The surrounding district of al-Ashrafiyeh is described as a mixed Muslim and Christian neighbourhood.

The mosque was built in 1961 by Hajj Mustafa Hasan Sharkas, a Circassian resident of Amman known by the nickname Abu Darweesh. The mosque has carried his name ever since its construction. He died on the second of Ramadan in 1991 and was buried in the mosque's courtyard.
