According to the available sources, the Mosque of Segrate was the first mosque with a dome and minaret built in Italy after the last mosques of Lucera were demolished in 1300.

It opened on 28 May 1988. Since then it has been considered Milan's most important mosque and, after the Mosque of Rome, the second most important in Italy.
