About us
We bring the mosques and masjids of the world together in a single atlas — with their location, architecture, history and stories.
Why MasjidAtlas?
Mosques are not only places of prayer; they are the memory of neighbourhoods, landmarks of cities and works that carry centuries of heritage. Much of this heritage is scattered across sources, available only in local languages, or has never been recorded at all.
MasjidAtlas was created to bring this knowledge together in an organised, verifiable and openly accessible form. Our goal is to be a useful reference for everyone — from a traveller looking for the nearest mosque to a researcher comparing architectural periods.
What we do
- For each mosque we record key information in a structured way: location, date of construction, period, architect, capacity, number of minarets and restoration history.
- We present the overview, history, inscription and stories told about the building under separate headings, keeping oral tradition apart from documented facts.
- We make discovery easy with a map, nearby mosques, country/city and period filters.
- We publish in 10 languages: Turkish, English and Arabic texts are prepared by editors; the other languages are generated by machine translation and marked as such on the page.
Community contributions, editorial review
We grow the atlas together. Anyone can suggest a new mosque, share photos or report an error in an existing record. Every contribution is reviewed by our editors, together with its sources, before it is published.
Contributors can follow the status of their submission with a tracking link; editors leave a note when something is missing or needs correction.
Our principles
- Accuracy: we base information on sources and clearly mark disputed dates and traditions.
- Respect: we care for the sanctity of places of worship and the privacy of congregations.
- Accessibility: we keep the atlas free, fast and usable on every device.
- Transparency: we clearly show machine translations, sources and photo credits.
Who we are
